We get some version of "who even runs this site" often enough that it's worth answering properly instead of burying it in an About page nobody clicks. Short version: this is a two-person hobby project, not a media company, and the tracker exists because we were personally annoyed by how hard it was to find a straight answer about the Ocarina hardware rumors without wading through a dozen contradictory forum threads.
Why a live tracker instead of just articles
Rumor coverage tends to be scattered across individual posts and videos that go stale the moment something new surfaces, with no single place that reflects the current state of things. The tracker on our homepage is our attempt to fix that for ourselves as much as for readers — one page that shows what stage things are at right now, updated as the situation changes, instead of a pile of dated posts that each need mental patching to stay current.
Our rule for what counts as "confirmed"
We only mark something confirmed if it's come from Nintendo directly — a press release, an official Direct, or similar. Everything else, no matter how many sources are reporting it or how credible those sources have been historically, gets labeled as a leak or a rumor. We think this is the least exciting but most honest way to run a site like this, and we'd rather be boring and right than exciting and wrong.
How we handle speculation
When we're guessing — about timing, about pricing, about whether two rumors are actually describing the same product — we try to say so explicitly rather than let it blend into the factual parts of a post. You'll see it flagged directly in posts like our special-editions timing piece. If we ever slip and state something as fact that should have been labeled a guess, tell us — see our mailbag post for how to reach us, and we'll fix it.
What we're not trying to be
We're not trying to compete with actual games journalism outlets that have real sourcing relationships, and we're not trying to be first with breaking news. We're trying to be a clear, honestly-labeled reference point for people who want the current state of this specific rumor without having to reconstruct it themselves from a dozen scattered sources.
